Idaho Scholarships

Recognizing the value of a postsecondary education, the State of Idaho offers a variety of scholarship options for eligible Idaho students.

The scholarships detailed below are administered by the State Board of Education with funding from a variety of sources.  Please review each scholarship separately, since the criteria are designed to meet the needs of different students.

Important ACT/SAT Notice

Applicants who need ACT/SAT scores must take these exams no later than December in order to have results back by scholarship deadlines in the following spring.

Awards and Requirements

There are many scholarship programs available to Idaho residents who are planning on attending a college or university in Idaho.

  • Merit-based scholarships are awarded to students based on academic achievement and other accomplishments.
  • Need-based scholarships are financial aid awards based on financial means.
  • Dependent scholarships are awarded to students based on the service of a parent.

The application will require the following:

  • Social Security Number
  • E-mail Address (Used for all scholarship notifications)

Idaho Opportunity Scholarship

Idaho Opportunity Scholarship
  • Applications are closed for the 2024-2025 year. The 2025-26 application will reopen October 2024.
  • FAFSA deadline for applicants has been extended to March 31, 2024.
  • Need-based award
  • Requires at least a 2.7 unweighted cumulative GPA

Idaho Opportunity Scholarship for Adult Learners

Idaho Opportunity Scholarship for Adult Learners
Applications are open. Applications and FAFSA due by the following dates:
  • For Summer 2024- April 15, 2024
  • For Fall 2024 - July 1, 2024
  • Need-based award
  • Requires at least a 2.5 unweighted cumulative GPA
  • Must attend an eligible Idaho college or university.

Tschudy Family Scholarship

  • Applications are closed for the 2024-25 year. The 2025-26 application will reopen October 2024.
  • Merit and Need-based award
  • For Emmett High School seniors or recent graduates
  • Requires a 2.6 GPA

GEAR UP Idaho Scholarship 3

GEAR UP Idaho Scholarship 3
  • Applications are open October 1.
  • For those who will graduate from an Idaho high school (see list) in 2024 or 2025 having participated in Gear Up between Fall 2019 – Spring 2025.

Idaho Postsecondary Credit Scholarship

Idaho Postsecondary Credit Scholarship
  • This program has ended and is no longer accepting applications.
  • Important Note: This program will phase out after the 2023-24 application cycle concludes on 6/15/2023.
  • Award available for students with ten (10) or more postsecondary credits at time of high school graduation and an eligible matching scholarship from a business or industry.

Idaho Governor's Cup Scholarship

Idaho Governor's Cup Scholarship
  • Applications for the academic scholarship are closed for the 2024-25 year. The 2025-26 application will reopen October 2024. The CTE application is open and the deadline is April 15.
  • Requires community service
  • For graduating seniors of an Idaho high school or home school, or a first-year student in a CTE program
  • Requires a 2.8 GPA

Armed Forces / Public Safety Officer Dependent Scholarship

Armed Forces / Public Safety Officer Dependent Scholarship
  • Applications are open year-round.
  • This scholarship is for dependents of fallen or permanently disabled (to the point that they are unemployable) Idaho members of the armed forces or Idaho public safety officers.
  • Eligible applicants must be Idaho residents.
